Actuarial Assistant (m/f/d) *

We are seeking high calibre individuals with relevant experience to sit within the UK Financial Reporting team. Applicants should have a mathematical background and be looking to train towards actuarial qualification. The role is flexible to the level of experience of the successful candidate. The team focuses on meeting the financial reporting requirements of the branch. The job holder is responsible for assisting in the delivery of Solvency II and IFRS reporting, with a greater focus on IFRS initially. We would welcome applications from a diverse background and would be open to a conversation around flexible working.
Assist with the production of financial projections, liability valuations, IFRS and solvency II calculations.
Assist in the testing and implementation of valuation systems and provide guidance and help to team members.
Draft written reports and documentation for results and methods employed.
Develop technical knowledge and expertise relevant to insurance reporting and accounting.
Develop the ability to represent the team and communicate results to senior management and other departments.
Contribute ideas and support to the positive development of Financial Reporting.
Work with other departments in the branch, to ensure that the inputs (including data and assumptions) to Financial Reporting are appropriate and reliable.
Develop a sound commercial awareness of our business.
Work successfully with the team and with others in the branch.
Plus any additional duties and responsibilities that may reasonably be expected to be undertaken in accordance with the role.
Relevant experience within the UK life insurance market
Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Excel & Word skills. Basic VBA or similar programming
Experience of life insurance valuation and financial reporting.
Experience of life reinsurance
Basic knowledge of IFRS, USGAAP, tax and other relevant regulations
Proficient use of MoSes or other cash flow models
In depth understanding of actuarial practices
Strong numerical and reasoning skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills, necessary for presentation and discussion of results and report-writing.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Manages own workload effectively, including proposing and meeting realistic work deadlines.
Takes initiative and has a creative and proactive approach to solving problems and learning.
