The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow possesses a large internationally rated Engineering Faculty with a proud history of successful joint ventures with industrial and enterprise partners. As part of the University’s strategic development the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) has been established at Inchinnan near Glasgow’s International Airport in partnership with multi-national companies such as Rolls-Royce and The Boeing Company. The AFRC is the embodiment of over £30 million collaborative investment by Industrial, Academic and Government partners to establish a world leading research facility for forging and forming technologies.
The High Value Manufacturing Catapult is the catalyst for the future growth and success of manufacturing in the UK. It is a strategic initiative that aims to revitalise the manufacturing industry and was implemented, along with six other similar programmes in different sectors, following extensive independent research - notably the Hauser and Dyson reports. In 2011, the AFRC was named as the forging and forming centre of the government’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult.

The AFRC is seeking to appoint an Assistant Quality Engineer to join the team. This role will work closely with technical and operational teams to identify and address quality concerns. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the AFRC’s Quality Management System which already exists. Acting as a support function for achieving compliance to technical, operational and project management processes as well as continuous improvement over all business processes by influencing actions for quality will be the main focus for this role.
To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of degree level in engineering, science or other relevant technical discipline, with experience working within a quality, manufacturing, R&D or design function in an industrial or business environment. You should have experience using problem solving tools, process development and preferably auditing. You should be comfortable presenting to diverse audiences with an ability to manage conflict and effectively transfer skills and knowledge to others.
