The Media Relations Manager sits within the Corporate Relations team, which advises senior management on reputation issues, drives proactive reputation- building programmes and manages communications with stakeholders including the media, government, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), communities and colleagues.
To support the Head of Group Media Relations in the delivery of Barclays media relations strategy
Ensure the effective implementation of the Barclays media relations strategy and operational plans, challenging strategy where appropriate
Support the preparation of communications materials and briefings for Group business leaders on a wide range of issues
Identify potential reputational issues that could impact the business and work with appropriate colleagues to minimise impact; planning & delivering practical & effective communications
Developing specific PR campaigns and issues management plans
Develop relationships with other media relevant to Barclays Group, managing the interface with the media and handling requests for information.
Provide exceptional stakeholder support that builds trust in the working relationship, confidence in our expertise and a positive reputation for the wider communications team
Good understanding and working experience of all media (including social media) and how to influence journalists across all media.
Ability to build strong relationships with key media and other stakeholders
Understanding of the structures and roles across the Barclays Group
Ability to act as media spokesperson on designated issues.
Good understanding of the use and application of communications techniques
Knowledge and understanding of financial markets
Understanding of public policy and regulatory environment in which Barclays operates
Media experience in a large corporate body
Relationship management experience at a senior level in a media environment.
