The Endoscopy department at the Royal Free consists of three rooms based in the department situated on the lower ground floor, within this busy clinical setting, inpatient, outpatient and tertiary procedures are undertaken. The department performs upper and lower GI investigations, including Double Balloon Endoscopy (DBE). The Royal Free hospital has a hepatobiliary team who perform Endo Ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP. Respiratory physicians and consultant paediatricians also complement the procedures offered to patients.

Additional capacity is provided in clinic 9 on the first floor which delivers a predominantly urological service. Endoscopy also utilizes the suite of rooms in the Interventional Radiology Cardiology Unit (IRCU) where complex procedures are performed under general anaesthetic.

Within the endoscopy department nursing staff, are encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills, support to undertake this is provided by the endoscopy units dedicated clinical practice educator.

Once assessed as competent, endoscopy nurses participate in the endoscopy out of hours GI bleed rota.
