CCTV & Community Alarms Operator

Location: Appletree Court, Lyndhurst.
Salary: £20,979-£22,264 (pro rata) + 5% Shift enhancement
Hours: 18.5 per week
- Flexi, Days & Nights, as required
Duration: Permanent

New Forest District Council is continuing to invest and upgrade the Councils CCTV and Community Alarms service and we have recently opened a new modern and purpose built Control Room.
We are seeking to recruit an operator to work as part of a team monitoring a network of over 60 public space CCTV cameras and over 2000 Community Alarm connections from its Lyndhurst offices.

The control room operates on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week.
The post requires surveillance of cameras, liaising with police and other services and keeping records in compliance with a strict code of practice.
You must be able to concentrate, especially during periods of intense activity, and have excellent observation skills.
The role will also involve answering community alarm calls, making decisions and taking the relevant action to deal with the call appropriately.

Applicants should have very good verbal and written communication skills, be well presented and have a professional and personable nature.
The ability to work calmly and effectively when dealing with emergency situations, viewing particularly distressing images or dealing with vulnerable and distressed adults over the phone or in person is also essential.
A high level of IT skills is necessary as the work is involves using the CCTV and Community Alarms software and equipment, as well as Microsoft Office.

The post holder will carry out home visits to residents to install community alarm equipment, so experience in dealing with vulnerable or distressed people within the community is desirable.
It will be necessary for other work within the community alarms service to be carried out such as general administration and the refurbishment and organising of community alarm equipment.
Training will be provided.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly, working both Day or Night shifts, in order to cover for annual leave and occasionally, sickness.
Shifts will be agreed in advance with a Supervisor.

The post holder must have a clean drivers licence and use of a car for carrying out home visits.

Due to the highly sensitive and confidential nature of the work, the successful applicant will undergo enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service clearance.
Ability, aptitude and/or personality tests may be carried out as part of the selection process

A Public Space Surveillance SIA licence is preferable but not essential and full training and accreditation will be given to the successful applicant, if required.
