Our Commercial Intellectual Property (Brand Development) team is top ranked for franchising, commercial contracts and marketing and advertising by Chambers and the Legal 500.


In addition to the franchising and commercial parts of the practice, our dedicated team of advertising, marketing and consumer protection lawyers provide domestic and multi-jurisdictional advice on all types of advertising, marketing and consumer activities. The team advises range of clients on the brand side, big and small, at different stages of maturity and across a variety of sectors, including retail, cosmetics and beauty, hotels, travel & leisure, sport, food & beverage, media; charities; transport; utilities and energy, services, healthcare and education. We work with household names advising on their marketing copy, brand campaigns and activations, sales promotions, advertising agency agreements, data collection and direct marketing, endorsement contracts, social media and influencer/brand ambassador activity, sponsorship, global loyalty schemes and partnership agreements.


We are seeking a talented lawyer to join this thriving practice as maternity cover for a fixed period of 12 months.


Responsibilities

Reporting to the head of the Advertising & Marketing practice.


Advising clients in various sectors on advertising and marketing regulatory, compliance and commercial matters.


Based in our London office, you will be a member of our international Commercial Intellectual Property (Brand Development) team providing support to regional, national and international clients.


Responsibilities would include:

Assisting with:

marketing copy compliance

claim substantiation

brand campaigns and activations

sales promotions – price claims and prize promotions

direct marketing

endorsement contracts

social media and influencer/brand ambassador activity

sponsorship agreements

global loyalty schemes

partnership agreements

media agency agreements

website reviews

commercial contracts (licensing, consumer terms and e-commerce)

raising the profile of the practice through blogs an articles

delivering client seminars and training

Working closely with colleagues across our Privacy, Brand Protection and Technology teams.

A high degree of direct client contact on a day-to-day basis.

Participation in marketing and practice development initiatives.

Key Skills & Experience

Qualified lawyer with proven experience in advertising and marketing matters, including knowledge of the ASA, the CAP Code and commercial contracts;

Good understanding of IP (especially copyright, design rights and trade marks);

Sound working knowledge of contract and commercial law;

Strong interpersonal skills;

Experience of cross border deals would be useful.

Team player with a desire to build strong internal and client relationships and the drive to help develop a rapidly growing practice;

Strong academics;

Flexibility and the ability to work independently;

Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills; and

Ability to work to deadlines and to manage competing demands from clients.
