We’re looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic professional to join our busy communications team.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain some great experience in a small press office. From promoting our biggest beer festival on social media to drafting press releases and editing member publications, the role is varied and will be a great foundation for someone starting their career in communications.

Our office is nestled in the heart of St Albans, offering an easy commute from the home counties. Some travel will be required for specific events. A love of beer and pubs helps - but it’s not required!

Job description:

We are looking for someone who can help assist with the traditional and digital communications as well as support with the production of our member publications, What’s Brewing newspaper and BEER magazine.

Traditional comms:

Support the Senior Communications Manager with promoting CAMRA’s reputation in the press and to its members

Act as the first point of call for all press and volunteer enquiries

Manage media interview schedules for spokespeople and assist with developing briefings

Compile press coverage summaries and distribute to stakeholders

Proofread all output including press releases and digital content

Digital media:

Support the Digital Communications Officer with creating and scheduling content for our social media channels

Create exciting videos, GIFs and graphics to help promote our key messages

Help develop and improve our national website

Publications and administration:

Support the editor with proofreading content for the magazine and newspaper

Draft website versions of news articles

Collate information for festival and event listings

Provide administrative support, including support for National Director with responsibility for Communications

Maintain CAMRA’s digital asset libraries and carrying out picture research

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate should have a demonstrable interest in communications, campaigning or public relations. They should be hardworking and have developed good communication skills.

Essential Criteria:

Journalism, PR or related qualification

A high degree of literacy with excellent writing skills

Confident, with excellent communication skills

Experience of writing press releases and other communication copy

Great attention to detail, accurate and strong proofreading skills

Demonstrable organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads

Familiarity with common social media tools and content management systems

Good team player with initiative and ability to self-motivate

Preferred Criteria:

Knowledge of or interest in the beer and pub industry

Experience of working within a membership or not-for-profit organisation
