Purpose of the Role:

To support in the planning and execution of brand communications for McLaren and its partners in support of the business’ strategic marketing objectives and to build brand affinity among target audiences of McLaren as a global technology, lifestyle and sports brand

To play an active role in the day-to-day running of the McLaren communications function, supporting the organisation, operation and delivery of communications plans and media relations activities for McLaren Group, including:

McLaren Racing (in relation to partner communications)

Corporate and Internal communications

Brand communications (including esports)

McLaren Applied Technologies

To enhance the McLaren brand and reputation of McLaren Group

To provide a key link in campaign delivery between the communications team and other key teams within the business e.g. digital and partnership activation teams, the wider Marketing company and wider McLaren Group companies


Role Dimensions:

Based in Woking at the McLaren Technology Centre, reporting to the Senior Manager Brand Communications. There may be some flexibility with working hours and travel required to fulfil this role effectively. This role has no direct reports.


Principal Accountabilities:

Working within the Comms team and reporting into the Senior Manager Brand Communications, to provide valuable support to McLaren strategic communications plans and activities including in three key areas:


General communications team support and execution

Support McLaren strategic partner communications

Building McLaren brand in lifestyle, business and technology media

To provide valuable press office support and manage the day-to-day running of the Comms team’s operations

To manage the running of regular team and cross-team meetings including proactively raising and actioning opportunities

Conducting regular coverage monitoring, reporting and evaluation for the wider business, and performing internal communications duties

Provide valuable and pro-active operational support to the wider Comms team by managing ongoing content plans, media databases, distribution lists, templates, company assets, sourcing information and imagery when required

To establish themselves as a trusted liaison between other teams in the marketing business: comms, Digital, Partner Activation and Events departments in relation to partner activity, media events and comms and digital campaigns

To produce high-quality written material in the form of press releases, internal communications announcements, reports, spokesperson briefing documents often for C-level executives across the business, speeches, media correspondence

Support the retention and growth of McLaren partnerships under the guidance of the Senior Communications Manager including reviewing and advising on communications and social plans, Q&As and announcements to ensure McLaren is correctly represented externally

Support and work with partners on mutually beneficial opportunities including being a McLaren communications team presence at launches, events, conferences

Management of influencer and celebrity engagement through partner activity, to ensure return for McLaren brand, and proactively seek relationships with relevant high-value influencers

Provide added value to partnerships and simultaneously enable the McLaren brand to benefit from greater profile in important media segments (eg. tech, lifestyle, business)

To proactively engage with key media contacts, developing relationships and helping to inform and educate them about McLaren, to enhance the brand and improve understanding of McLaren as a world-class technology, sports and lifestyle brand

To support the media relations campaign activities across McLaren’s esports programme, McLaren Shadow Project, supporting agencies as required to enhance the awareness of the competition, its assets and partners

Support the management of in-market resource, notably APAC and US, to build the McLaren brand in corporate and business media to support the commercial objectives of those regions e.g creation of assets, identification of speaking opportunities


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Experience in a busy communications environment within a specialist communications/media/PR role

This role will suit an applicant with strong organisational skills and coordination capabilities

Media relations – developing relationships with journalists, managing media enquiries, drafting media materials, identifying proactive media opportunities, managing reactive responses to inbound media enquiries

Senior personnel/stakeholder engagement – dealing with senior team personnel and stakeholders, across all McLaren group companies

A proactive approach to managing the candidate’s own workload, able to work well under pressure and accustomed to working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced department
