We are looking for a dynamic communications officer with experience of creating and delivering first-class internal communications to join our Community and Employee Engagement team in our Corporate Communications department.
Rarely a day goes by without policing being in the news. Issues regarding crime and safety are of significant interest to the public and media alike and elicit strong opinions and emotions.
The role of a police communicator is therefore challenging yet rewarding, ensuring that we effectively listen, engage and respond to the needs of the communities we serve, to build trust and confidence in our ability to keep them safe.
Our greatest asset to achieve this is our people.
The role of our employee engagement team is therefore critical; connecting our 7,000+ officers, staff and volunteers to their organisation and helping to promote the right culture and environment that encourages them to feel fully involved and valued in their role, enthusiastic about their contribution and empowered to take action.
About the role
From changes to legislation and operational practice to communicating organisational priorities, as part of our employee engagement team you will work with senior leaders to develop the messages we need to convey to our people. You will devise and deliver targeted plans to engage specific audiences in what we are doing and why. Specifically, you will produce informative and inspiring communications to support our ambitious transformation programme, enabling the force to meet policing needs now and in the future. One of the largest police forces in the country, spread across three counties, the role is also key to identifying and adopting new ways and channels to connect our workforce, providing information and support, enabling the sharing of best practice and encouraging celebration of success.
You will have 2-3 years’ experience of working in internal communications, either in a dedicated role or as part of a wider communications position within a large public or private organisation. An organised, confident writer, you can translate complex information into clear, persuasive content, and use research and evaluation techniques to measure effectiveness. As someone who loves coming up with new ideas, you will have the ability to create memorable approaches to targeting and engaging audiences to deliver a lasting impact. You will also be inquisitive and eager to keep abreast of developments within the sector to be able to apply best practice to your own work. You are a strong project manager who keeps on top of deadlines and has the confidence to chase updates if required. Confident and dynamic, you also have the ability to energise your peers, chair meetings and present ideas and outcomes to senior colleagues/partners. You should enjoy working as part of a team but have the motivation to work independently and the ability to think on your feet.
The role is based at our force headquarters in Kidlington however you will be required occasionally to travel and work across the Thames Valley area, therefore a full driving licence is considered essential.
As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 22-30 days annual leave per annum (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, performance related pay increases, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, career development opportunities and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
