48 Force Support Squadron, RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom

Employment Category: Regular Part Time

Duties: Performs a full range of simple cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables. Prepares items such as hot cereals and broiled meats. Prepares and cooks concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies. Makes cold sandwich fillings for wraps and sandwiches. Prepares convenience items such as frozen hash browns, fries, fish fillets, and chicken nuggets. Some cooks at this level prepare and bake pizza. Regulates cooking temperature and steam pressure, checks for correct cooking time and condition of the food being cooked. Seasons food according to set procedures, making adjustments when appropriate. Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular menu items; sets up and replenishes salad bar; portions foods for distribution and meal service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures. Washes and cleans kitchen equipment. Maintain accurate food inventories and rotate stock to prevent spoilage. May be assigned cashier duties in the absence of regular employee. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must have experience in and knowledge of methods and procedures relating to food preparation and presentation gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity. Ability to follow oral and written instruction, work safely, and do simple arithmetic. Knowledge of operating and cleaning food service equipment, characteristics of various foods, and the ability to season food and decide when foods are done is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate and/or complete food handler’s training. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Subject to an irregular tour of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.


Regular Employment Category: US NAF employment offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes, in part, annual leave, sick leave, holidays, retirement plan and a 401(k) savings plan. Minimum guaranteed work week hours are 20.

Flexible Employment Category: Flexible employees have work schedules that depend of the needs of the facility. These employees may work a minimum of zero hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. These positions do not receive benefits as mentioned above.
