Role synopsis
Refining Technology & Engineering (RT&E) provides technical expertise and support to refineries worldwide which are operated or supported by the BP Group. RT&E focuses on Feedstock Advantage, technology development and implementation, project engineering and commercial support to grow and sustain the business longer term. RT&E is predominately based in Naperville, Illinois, US and Sunbury, UK with some staff located near our operations in refineries and on the Integrated Supply and Trading (IST) trading floors.

This role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to gain experience of working in a dynamic team supporting BP’s global refining & supply system. The Crude Oil Analyst is a member of the Crude Knowledge Team (CKT) in Refining Technology & Engineering (RTE), accountable for providing leading and competitive technical and operational services to refining and logistics assets within the Fuels business. The CKT focuses on providing tools, data and knowledge on the quality of Crude Oil and Feedstocks to a wide range of businesses throughout BP. Ideally, the successful candidate would have knowledge of crude oil qualities and their impact. The successful candidate will require good team-working and interpersonal skills.

Key accountabilities
Provide representative crude oil and feedstock (Naphtha, HGO, VGO, AtRes etc.) assays to assist the refineries in modelling and scheduling, and IST in buying and selling crude and feedstocks.
Responsibility for regularly tracking the quality of a number of global crude oils and ensuring that each grade has up-to-date information documented for the business.
Responsibility for analysing and interpreting in-house and third party laboratory data.
Model validation and data analysis to support the implementation of PredictIR technologies (tools to rapidly measure yield and key qualities of oil imports) into the ESA refineries.
Maximise the value from third party analytical testing spend by delivering Assay Programme test slate studies and reviewing the monthly invoices.
Seek opportunities for continuous improvement by undertaking small projects related to above areas of work.
Maintain and enhance the Assay Assurance Grade Ownership Process (GOP) dashboard to readily provide GAAT SPA with required management information.
Provide support for other CKT activities and projects when required e.g. validation of new CrudeSuite releases.
Working on the IST London trading floor to provide frontline technical support to Asset Economists and Supply Coordinators to support the Feedstock Advantage agenda.
Essential Education
Degree (BSc or equivalent) in Engineering, Science or Business discipline.

Ability to work effectively within a small team
Ability to work independently on small projects
Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with the teams the CKT support
Drive to succeed in a fast paced environment, sitting on the IST London trading floor.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
Understanding of the properties of Crude Oil and their impact on refineries
Ability to analyse and interpret laboratory and refinery analytical data
Strong Microsoft Office and in particular, Excel skills.
