Cyber Security Manager
Waverley Court

Salary: £52,222 - £62,385
Hours: 36 per week

The City of Edinburgh Council is a diverse and complex organisation providing over 700 services to the Capital. To enable us to deliver this wide range of services we are increasingly adopting digital approaches, by design, to be more effective, efficient and to improve access to citizens and service users.

As a part of our digital strategy, we are committed to the Scottish Government’s Public Sector Cyber-resilience action plan and ensuring that we not only achieve these requirements but that we go further and become an exemplar of good cyber security practice in the future. We’ve made some positive progress to date, but we need to do more and increase our pace of change to both adapt and respond to the evolving environment of new threats, cyber attacks and cyber crime.

In this new and business critical role you will join our Digital Services Leadership Team, reporting to our recently appointed Chief Digital Officer, and will be our subject matter expert and senior adviser on all cyber security issues. You will ensure that we continue to develop, review and evaluate the effectiveness of our cyber security arrangements to make our operations safer, more secure and to protect the data and information we use, working closely with our strategic ICT provider, statutory Data Protection Officer and other specialists.

As a senior professional, you’ll be expected to demonstrate the personal resilience, self-sufficiency organisation and planning skills, along with the interpersonal and communications skills to effectively engage with, influence and inform senior stakeholders, both internally and externally. You’ll need to be technically expert but will possess the ability to translate and explain cybersecurity issues in a way that gains both buy-in and improved understanding from your colleagues. Most of all, you’ll need to share our values around Customer First, Honest and Transparent, Work Together and Forwarding Thinking.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.

Offer will be subject to a basic Disclosure Scotland check
