Would you like to join a youth charity to help young people get their first step on the career ladder? This charity work with young people to provide them education and training, and create opportunities with local employers to get their first job via the government traineeship and apprenticeship programmes.
This is a hugely rewarding role where you will be split across 2 centres, mostly based in Colindale and sometimes Enfield. Your main focus will be to engage with new employers who have not heard of the charity before and talk about the opportunities of taking on a young person through a traineeship – which is a 13 week non-paid work experience placement. Often, these placements are successful, with employers usually taking them on board.
You will need to be passionate about giving a voice to young people and being able to represent them to employers. A typical 16 year old might not have any work experience, so being able to talk about their qualities and personality is key and where you add value (there is no cost to the employer). Around 70% of the role is focussed on identifying new businesses to work with. So this will involve cold calling, emails, and going out on visits. With the rest of the time focussed on existing employer accounts and engaging with the young people.
