Coaching for Life works with care experienced young people between 16 to 25 to gain support to further enhance their lives. Life coaches can help young people gain their own tenancies, gain access to college, university, work experience or employment. Life coaches also provide help with finances, emotional and social support.
This is a wonderful opportunity to provide support and companionship for a young person. The befriending relationship will help to reduce loneliness, isolation and increase sociability and the confidence of the young person.
The befriender will undertake different activities the young person would like to do, for example, going to the cinema, playing mini golf, going on trips or visiting new places around Glasgow.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALITIES & EXPERIENCE:
An awareness of mental health issues is preferable and experience working with young people with anxiety and social isolation is desired. Communication skills are key, with listening being especially important. Knowledge of Glasgow would be preferable. A high level of reliability, patience and commitment to the role is necessary.
WHERE & WHEN:
This can be agreed each week with the young person.
To get the most out of the role it is hoped you can commit for at least 6 months.
TRAINING & SUPPORT PROVIDED:
All relevant training will be provided and support from a named member of staff.
The young person would like a female as their befriender.
MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: (THIS IS DUE TO NATURE OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY/PROJECT)
The volunteer should be at least 25 years of age, due to the age of the young person.
Transport is not necessarily required as it would be good to allow the young person to become more familiar with public transport around Glasgow.

All agreed out of pocket expenses will be provided which includes travel and activities.
Initial meetings will be set up between the Life Coach and volunteer as an introduction. Meetings will take place between the Life Coach, volunteer and young person until the young person and volunteer feel comfortable meeting without the Life Coach present.
