Overview

Our Client, a leader in the field of Packaging solutions to industry, is seeking a leading professional to join them in the role of Finance Director.

The ideal person for this role will be a qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), someone with a curiosity and desire to be involved fully in the business, will buy into the culture and core values whilst having a positive impact at all levels - personality will be key, not just a role for an Accountant.

Based at the company's head office, reporting to the Executive Director, you will be a core member of the Senior Leadership Team and be responsible for Financial operations across their three UK sites. You will manage a team comprised of 9, 3 at HO managing Payroll, Purchase & Sales Ledgers, with 6 Accounts Assistants split between the 2 other sites

Role Profile

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Management Accounts (in conjunction with the FC):

- Produce, review and analyse monthly management accounts (comprising full profit & loss accounts, balance sheet and cash flow with commentary)

- Produce, review and discuss KPI’s and PIP with relevant department heads (e.g. sales tonnage and average selling price, gross margin and profit per tonne, scrap and output, monthly summary of purchasing activity)

- Preparing board papers and commercial briefings for the board meetings

- Prepare, review and discuss key business reports with relevant department heads (e.g customer sales, product sales, gross margins)

Finance:

- Manage the accounts team(s) to ensure timely preparation of management accounts and Financial information. Follow up variances with departmental heads

- Ensure that necessary Financial controls are adhered to – e.g. credit control, payment of suppliers, stock takes.

- Ensure that necessary non-Financial controls are adhered to – e.g. authorisation levels, selling price changes, overtime, system changes etc

- Prepare and manage the year end audit

- Provide Financial information to Group (weekly sales/orders, cash flow, ad hoc)

- Ensure that the team is appropriately structured and has the requisite skills

- To help develop and mentor the team

Strategy, Budgets and Forecasts:

- Be actively involved in building and delivery of long term strategy

- Help to prepare detailed budgets and forecasts which enable accurate measurement against actual performance

- Strategic Initiatives and 5 year plans

Negotiation/Contract Tasking:

- Help with a variety of negotiations/review of contracts (e.g. supplier identification, energy contract, annual haulage contracts, Packaging Waste Legislation. Terms & Conditions reviews, and Insurances)

Project Work:

- Such ad hoc projects which may arise

Support:

- Drive improvements in business information to help support sales growth and margin enhancement

- Deliver professional and meaningful advice to the Board and the rest of the business and to be actively involved in decisions and activities that will achieve strategic objectives

- Attend and participate (and challenge) in all board/management meetings

- Support other Depts.: Production – discussion and delivery of KPIs (waste, labour, complaints, OEE etc).

- Support other Depts.: Sales – sales pricing, margin management, customer & product profitability etc

Person Profile

* A qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)

* A minimum of 5 years post-qualified experience

* Strong financial controls experience

* A minimum of 3 year experience in a managerial capacity within the Finance function of a firm

* An appreciation of the relationship between company operations and departments and the Finance function, with a curiosity to learn about the whole business and how to improve each area

* Understand the importance of business information in order to identify challenges, improve margins, opportunities, products etc

Desirable:

* Experience in a similar role within Manufacturing or industry

* ERP Implementation experience
