Job Title – Lead Solution Designer
Location – Glasgow
About the role
Lead and manage a team of application developers to deliver best in class applications to support Barclays Finance and wider areas of the organisation.
· Implement a culture of innovation, partnering with business and Technology areas to influence designs according to industry standards and best practice.
· Ensure design and technology choices across applications align with Enterprise Architecture standards.
· Lead team technical approach and implementation.
What will you be doing?
o Provides day to day technical direction to development teams across a number of projects.
o Ensures that development aligns to appropriate standards
o Ensures delivery of the platform and service meets requirements, and that acceptance and handover to business as usual are managed against agreed acceptance criteria and to a defined plan.
o Ensures integrity is maintained by utilising best practice approach to development, and implementation of Production change
o Initiates extra activities and other management interventions wherever gaps in the Project are identified or issues arise
o Understands customer needs and designs systems that allow customers to meet their business needs. Influences the customer where appropriate, to demonstrate understanding of business requirements through solution partnering.
o Performs system and network modelling, analysis and planning to implement a solution that will meet business needs within financial budget guidelines.
o Researches software and hardware products or services, to find best solutions to meet business requirements.
o Presents and translates the design to customers to ensure the design will meet the customers' requirements.
o Liaise with subject matter experts from all areas of technology – including other lead architects, security consultants, systems designers – to ensure any solution fits the bank strategy.
o Translates the requirements to internal project teams to successfully implement the design.
o Interacts with a number of project build leads to ensure understanding of requirements and design.
o Oversees the creation of work breakdown schedules to assist with planning and estimating for development work.
o As a technical expert, provides guidance and makes decisions on changes required throughout the design process, and may also do some development along with the application teams.
What we’re looking for:
· Proven background in application development and delivery, including (but not limited to):
o .NET development and delivery including ASP .NET Web Forms, MVC, WCF, Web API
o RDMS development, profiling and performance tuning, ideally SQL Server and MariaDB
o Delivery of solutions that utilise the following concepts:
§ Version Control Management Systems, including GIT and TFS
§ Continuous Integration Platforms, including Team City and TFS
§ Software Component Management Systems including Nexus
§ Code Quality Systems
§ Automated Deployment Solutions, including Nolio
o Delivery of solutions that make use of Automated Testing Software and Frameworks including MSTest, NUnit, MSFakes, Moq and Selenium
o Excellent understanding of SOA and n-tier development.
o Proven solution design and documentation skills within an IT project background.
o Excellent understanding of software design patterns.
o Understanding of Cloud computing, especially AWS is highly desirable.
Skills that will help you in the role:
· Understanding of operating systems including Windows Server (all versions) and Linux (Red Hat desirable)
· Experience of managing development resource within a strong matrix organisation.
· Knowledge and demonstrable practical understanding of delivering change projects into ITIL based organizations
