FORCE PROTECTION

FIREFIGHTER

CURRENTLY RECRUITING

As an RAF Firefighter you will provide 24/7 fire and crash rescue protection. You will be organised and trained to respond to any emergency with highly specialised equipment like powerful cutting tools.

APPLICANTS MUST:

Be aged 17 – 47 (Must attest before 48th birthday)

Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, holder of dual UK/Other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth

Have GCSE at Grade C/4-5 or SCE Standard Grade at Grade 2/Scottish National 5 in English Language

GCSE at Grade C/4-5 or SCE Standard Grade at Grade 2/Scottish National 5 in Maths

Hold a current full, clean UK driving licence

Commit minimum 3 years post Phase Two Training

Meet the health and fitness criteria

Pass the Airman Selection Test

Pass a General Fitness Test

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Be a component of the Force Protection element for Defence when both in the UK and Overseas

Work as part of a close-knit team, deployable on short-notice to any location world-wide

Resolve incidents involving aircraft, buildings, hazardous substances and incidents caused by hostile activities

As an RAF Fire-fighter, you will form a component part of the Force Protection recuperation element for Defence when operating both in the UK and overseas. As part of a close-knit team, you can be deployed within short time frames to any location worldwide using limited resources to offer a multitude of fire prevention/protection duties to meet Defence requirements. You will receive exceptional training to ensure you are adequately prepared to respond to and resolve incidents involving aircraft, buildings, vehicles, hazardous substances and incidents caused by hostile activities. In addition, you may also have the opportunity to gain fire prevention qualifications to ensure you can provide Ministry of Defence personnel a safe and secure environment.

TRAINING AND CAREER

TRAINING YOU’LL RECEIVE


Your career will start with a 10-week Basic Recruit Training Course at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire. The course is designed to help you adjust to a military environment. As well as fitness and military training, you’ll also learn about the RAF lifestyle.


SPECIALIST TRAINING


The 14 weeks phase 2 specialist Fire-fighter training course takes place at the Defence Fire Training & Development Centre Manston in Kent, where you will be enrolled on to Level 3 Apprenticeship as an Operational Firefighter.The specialist course will teach you:


Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

Fire Service Drill

Breathing Apparatus

Structural Fire-fighting

Road Traffic Incident Techniques

Aircraft Construction

Crash Fire-fighting Operations

You will deal with ‘live’ practice fires and gain experience of specialist crash rescue fire-fighting vehicles.


As part of Phase 2 training you will be enrolled on to a Level 3 Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship. This is a 3 year programme you will complete as part of your daily duties .

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


ALL APPLICANTS MUST:

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


Have these minimum grades:

GCSE GCSE 2017 SNE

Mathematics C Grade 4 Grade 5

English Language C Grade 4 Grade 5

Hold current full UK driving licence. For candidates under the age of 20 years and 6 months at time of applying, the licence must be free from record of conviction or penalty points, including any driving ban (even if it has expired) as these preclude the holding of a LGV category licence. Candidates over this age with unexpired penalty points may be considered for service in the trade of Firefighter.
