Role Purpose

- Supplier Management for Global Operations is responsible for third party risk, supplier performance, and strategic supplier management.


- The Supplier Management - Global Lead will lead development and execution of global improvement programmes around all aspects of Supplier Management; from contract, risk and service management, through to relationship and value enhancement with key suppliers.


- By leveraging initial efforts to introduce some consistency to supplier management, the role holder will work with colleagues across global businesses, functions, procurement, risk, and compliance to devise and deliver a balanced and measurable approach to how HSBC executes its Supplier Management activities.


- The job holder will bring best Supplier Management market practices to bear at HSBC, delivering a step change in Supplier Management at HSBC.


- The successful candidate will work within the Supplier Management team – developing and implementing Global Operation’s strategic supplier management, building up our supplier performance management with colleagues across Global Operations and Lines of Business, ensuring third party risk management and exploiting the benefits of the new Archer tool implemented by Procurement.


- The role reports functionally to the Head of Supplier Management and the job holder will need to drive improvements in management and transparency of supplier risk using greater the automation provided by the Archer tool, providing supplier management support and direction to domain colleagues who are themselves driving Transformation change, maximizing the value that HSBC realises from third party suppliers in line with business, regulatory and control requirements.


- The successful candidate will need to have a Supplier Management background with a mix of change management, project management and analytical capabilities. The role holder will be supporting complex projects and have the communication skills to represent HSBC externally and internally with senior stakeholders


Key Accountabilities
Impact on Business


- Uses supplier management skills and knowledge of HSBC and third party contracts to manage and improve third party risk through influencing quality and appropriateness of third party reviews and FIM’s.
- Uses management skills to maintain compliance within Risk Appetite.
- Support Outsourcing Governance Forum / Process inside Global Operations
- Input to and support for Global Operations on responses to Audit on Third party Suppliers and risk
- Optimize the migration of Global Operations contracts to the new Archer tool working with Procurement.
- Uses analytical skills to exploit value add of new Archer tool
- Uses supplier management skills to develop and improve the supplier performance MI and action thereon.
- Represent Global Operations at supplier related governance forums where required
- Create a sustainable forum for strategic supplier management for key suppliers that involves performance feedback to suppliers, innovation from suppliers, an exchange of strategic direction ( subject to confidentiality )
- Support domain leads with their Transformation plans that involve third party arrangements.
- Support Procurement led cost reduction programmes across Global Operations.


Customers / Stakeholders


- Lead and manage TPR Framework related initiatives and other projects and primary point of contact for the same
- Lead and support Supplier Management Governance, Bulk Reviews, Opportunity Assessment related tasks / meetings
- Effective communication and provision of information to all stakeholders to support the delivery of Supplier Management related projects across regions / countries
- Effective relationships and communication is developed with key stakeholders (e.g. Domain leads, Global Operations Exco, LoB , Procurement, COO team, CCO)
- Represent Global Operations at supplier related governance forums where required


Leadership & Teamwork


- Ensure that there are effective relationships and communication is developed with key stakeholders (e.g. Domain leads, Global Operations Exco, LoB , Procurement, COO team, CCO)
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with the key global suppliers working in a matrix with Domain leads and Procurement
- Lead, manage and provide direction to the Global Ops teams and BRCM on Third Party Risk Framework related issues
- Represent Global Operations at supplier related governance forums where required.

- Ensure Third Party Risk Framework is implemented across Global Ops.

Role Context

- The banking industry has and continues to be challenged with tighter regulation on capital requirements, leverage and liquidity, which has put revenues under pressure. However, costs continue on a growth trajectory and the whole industry is looking to address this. The Bank is therefore required to review the current cost base and to find innovative solutions that provide a step change.
- The role holder has a responsibility to bring together key stakeholders to participate, own the outcome and help us drive the
desired outcome for the bank.


Management of Risk

- The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks and likelihood of operational risk occurring. This will be achieved by reviewing risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new processes.
- The jobholder should then address any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.


Observation of Internal Controls


- To maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
