The Government Affairs and Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the respective Government Affairs and Communications leaders for GE in the UK, contributing to message development, research, external and internal collateral and supporting media activity, and executive communication.
Developing compelling communications for external and internal audiences
Breaking down complex topics into easily digestible communications
Researching and developing content for social media, internal and external platforms
Assisting with video and audio scripting, filming and editing
Development of slide presentations/other content for internal and external use
Monitoring the news for media coverage relevant to our business
Supporting development and communication of evaluation
Researching and preparing executive briefings ahead of internal or external communications activity
Potential event support/management
Government Affairs specific responsibilities are:
Research on key areas of UK Government policy: Brexit; industrial strategy, energy; life sciences; aviation; digital; trade
Production of slide packs summarising new policy developments
Organise key, cross-business internal meetings: Brexit Working Group, Energy White Paper Group, etc.
Attend government meetings and workshops
Monitoring on developments in UK government funding sources, particularly around the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and Innovate UK
Advice to businesses on upcoming opportunities
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs or equivalent knowledge and experience
Excellent written English
Excellent PowerPoint skills
