Higher Level Teaching Assistant with SEND Specialism

For SEPTEMBER 2019. SCALE 5 (£20,434 - £22,342 pa. Inc)

39 weeks

35 hours a week

8.30am – 4.00pm Mon-Fri (with 30-minute lunch)


This is an exciting opportunity to work with senior leaders to open our first Additional Resourced Provision (ARP) for children with Autism. We are a school moving very quickly from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’, and we want our ARP to be an exceptional provision with a view to expanding it in coming years.


Your duties will include:


- supporting pupils learning and their social and emotional welfare
- delivering sessions to the whole class in the absence of the teacher
- leading on the delivery of curriculum sessions and interventions under the supervision of the ARP class teacher
- preparing learning materials
- creating and maintaining a stimulating teaching and learning environment
- working inside or outside the classroom with individuals or groups
- assisting with pupils' physical needs, including assisting with appropriate therapy and/or physiotherapy sessions and intimate care routines (including toileting and feeding)
- helping pupils to increase their confidence, self-esteem and independence
- keeping records and attending reviews/ meetings
- maintaining a close dialogue with parents regarding their children’s progress

Are you:


- experienced in working with children with special needs, including medical needs and disabilities
- experienced in leading small group interventions and delivering structured curriculum sessions using sensory approaches to children with ASD
- familiar with SEN assessment and strategies used to support learning
- flexible and able to adapt to challenges that arise
- able to work within a team and lead others
- willing to train in different communication and interaction techniques
- passionate about the life chances of pupils with special needs
- friendly and approachable with excellent communication skills
