Description

Salesian School is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to teach IT & Computing. We welcome applications from trainee teachers and experienced colleagues alike, including those looking for positions with additional responsibility. If you are energetic, enthusiastic and love teaching children then we’d be delighted to hear from you. We are always happy to meet potential applicants prior to interview; please don’t hesitate to contact us (pcarr@salesian.surrey.sch.uk) if you would like any further information or to visit the school.

The IT & Computing Department at Salesian

The IT and Computing Department at Salesian are a forward thinking, enthusiastic, supportive and ambitious team consisting of three full-time teachers. Mr Barker and Mr Bathgate teach Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. Mr Hamshar teaches Key Stage 3 and 4. Classes are supported by our dedicated HLTA, Mrs Rose. As you would expect, all our classrooms are fully resourced with new PC’s, AV equipment and projectors. The department makes use of three IT suites at our main Guildford Road site and two further suites for college teaching at Highfield Road. The latest variants of mainstream software are installed such as Adobe Creative Cloud and there is an excellent IT support team on site.

IT and Computing is taught in discrete lessons to all year groups at Key Stage 3. Students have a choice of two different qualifications offered at Key Stage 4, Cambridge Nationals Level 2 and Computer Science GCSE (OCR). At Key Stage 5 we offer a choice of either A level Computer Science (OCR), Cambridge Technicals in IT or T Levels in Digital Production, Design and Development. Ideally therefore we are looking for someone with the skills and experience to teach Computing both at KS4 and KS5.

We offer a lunchtime Computer Club four days a week where students have the opportunity to use the IT suite for their own needs.

We achieve good results. At Key Stage 4 in 2019 89% of students achieved an A* to C grade in the GCSE and 84% A* to C in the Cambridge Nationals. We are certainly not complacent, there is still a lot to do and we are excited about appointing the right person to move the department onto new challenges.

We are determined to make the IT and Computing Department at Salesian the best in Surrey, if not the country! We look forward to meeting you and discussing your ideas to help us in achieving this end. Please do visit us and come and look around.
