Do you think that you can make a difference with pupils in a college? Are you a teaching assistant or support worker? Do you have experience working with SEN needs?

We are looking for Learning Support Assistants to work with students with a wide range of needs, including academic, social, emotional and physical. You will be supporting students with Special Educational Needs including Autism, Asperger's and moderate learning difficulties, helping them achieve their potential by providing learning support both in and out of class.

This role would suit someone who is looking for flexibility and term time hours. You will be employed based on student needs and your individual availability. The college is local to Tyneside and is closed for holiday periods such as Christmas, Easter and Summer.

Requirements

* Caring, understanding with a real desire to support students with additional support needs
* Understanding of what a 'person centred approach' means
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Be able to work under own initiative
* A proactive and "common sense approach"
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to understand the concept of "support" in education being different to "care"
* Ability to manage stressful situations
* Be able to support students who may experience challenging behaviour and / or emotional difficulties
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* GCSE English and Maths

Responsibilities
* To work under the direction of the teacher during sessions
* To develop learner's independence
* To develop learner's English and Maths skills
* Ability to keep students on task and engaged
* Ensuring the personal safety and well being of students and self at all times
* Provide support to students during breaks and lunch time
* Escorting students to and from taxis and during activities in the community
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to monitor student's progress and set new targets
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* Students require a lot of social/emotional/pastoral support particularly within their friendship groups
* To deliver a high standard of support for learners with ALS needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Successful applicants must be suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults
* A DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) will be carried out
