Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will focus predominantly on commercial contract work and compliance matters. The Legal and Compliance Lawyer will also to be involved in a broad variety of legal and quasi-legal matters.


Key Responsibilities will be:

Draft, review and negotiate a variety of trade, commercial, financial and operational documents, including NDAs, MOUs, product and service sale contracts, bonds/guarantees, IP/software licensing, property leases, joint development projects; all to ensure compliance with company and shareholder risk mitigation requirements.

Support Servomex’s UK, EMEA, Asia Pacific and Americas businesses on legal and compliance matters as they continue to pursue their strategy to transform and grow the business.

Work with different managers and functions across the whole group.

Carry out due diligence for the appointment and/or renewal of various sales intermediaries.

Conduct investigations for internal compliance purposes.

Analyse legal issues and risks; make recommendations to business on how to respond to legal issues, risks, potential claims and proposed changes in laws and regulations.

Ensure company policies and processes are followed and appropriate governance maintained.

Manage external lawyers and related budgets, as required from time to time.

Provide regular training on legal and compliance matters to non-legal functions.


Candidate Specification:

Legal professional qualification.

Commercial contracts experience gained either in an in-house role or in private practice.

Good analytical skills.

Strong communication skills, written and verbal.

Willingness to learn, work hard and to become a key contributor to a growing business.

Able to build relationships across a multi-cultural organisation.

IT knowledge, including use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint.

Experience of compliance matters (governance, code of business ethics, export, regulatory), policy, process and investigation.

Some prior experience of working for an engineering, manufacturing, technology company would be helpful but is not necessary provided the person has a willingness to learn and work with the business people.

Knowledge of a foreign language or languages – European or other.

Company secretarial experience would be useful, to help support regular reporting / creation of corporate documents for a small portfolio of companies.

Experience dealing with property leases and employment law matters.
