LIFT OFF Development Worker (full and part-time)
Fixed Term until 31st July 2020
Grade 6: £27,025 - £32,236 pro rata
Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.
LIFT OFF delivers of the Scottish Funding Council’s “Schools for Higher Education” programme. It is a cross-sectoral partnership that aims to raise awareness of and increase participation in higher education amongst young people attending one of our 13 target secondary schools across the region. Target schools are those with a low progression rate to higher education.
The University now seeks to appoint a full time LIFT OFF Development Worker.
- Are you passionate about the benefits of higher education?
- Do you believe everyone should have a fair chance to access higher education?
- Do you have up to date knowledge of college and university life and the student experience?
- Do you have excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds?
Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will contribute to the development of the LIFT OFF programme and help to deliver a range of exciting activities designed to inspire young people and support their transition to higher education. You will work within a small team of devolvement workers to engage with pupils (both in groups and individually) to provide a tailored programme that will bridge the gap between school and higher education. This will involve liaison with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders including colleges, universities, employers, local authorities and Skills Development Scotland.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, you should have experience of working with young people (preferably in an education setting); and developing and delivering resources and materials, ideally within a widening access context. An understanding of student support systems within higher education and barriers facing young people in accessing higher education would be advantageous, as would knowledge of the Scottish education system. Excellent communication skills and demonstrable planning and organising experience are required.
Extensive travel will be required, as will some evening and weekend working. This post is based with the LIFT OFF team in Glenrothes, Fife.
