Job description

  • Entry level
  • No Education
  • Salary to negotiate
  • Cambridge

I'd imagine you're someone who likes to be creative with designing machinery, enjoying seeing your design come to life in production. Whether it's modifications, creating new concepts or designing new methods and processes, you strive in a fast-paced environment and you're always looking for better ways of working. I'm right, aren't I? If you've also got 5+ years' experience from a mechanical design background (preferably using Inventor, but not essential) and have worked with fabricated structures such as stainless steel, then it's likely you're about to read all about your next great role.

This is not your typical Mechanical Design Engineer role. As a Mechanical Design Engineer at this company (the fastest growing division in this particular group!), you will work closely with the project team and the customers alike. You'll be creating designs to specs from the initial brief (so an eye for detail is a must) and work closely with the production team to ensure there are no issues with the parts: we all know that, should a machine get delivered for an install and the drawings don't match, this can be a massive cost to the company! A typical issue could be component failure so how can we help reduce the cost before it becomes an issue?
The successful candidate will need to think outside the box and 10 steps ahead and, having worked their way up from the shop floor, will have great a great appreciation for how limited communication can lead to an unlimited amount of errors. In addition, we'd hope you have:

- 5+ years' experience designing complex machinery such as food machinery, processing machinery etc.
- Previous experience using Inventor (or something similar, such as Solidworks)
- The ability to think outside the box
- Been educated to a degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant subject
- Experience working with fabricated structures such as stainless steel
- Worked on SAP
- The confidence to implement new methods and voice ideas to improve processes

If I've just described the future you've been dreaming of and think you could add the value and bring the expertise required to drive success in this role, then please contact Hollie Church at The ONE Group for more information or apply online now.
