Situated close to the centre of Cambridge and on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Long Road is a popular and successful Sixth Form College with 2,-19 year old full-time students. Our core objective is to inspire, motivate and support our students in becoming the best that they can be.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and energetic person to join our Media Department to provide technical support to the department, with specific responsibilities for the A Level Film and Media Studies, GCSE Film Studies, Level 2 and Level 3 Media Applied.

Previous experience within a film or media environment is essential, as is a good working knowledge of Mac and PC systems, digital camera hardware and a range of relevant software. This role will also require an element of working twilight sessions, as required.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose: To provide technical support to the Media and Film department, with specific responsibilities to the A Level and Applied Photography, GCSE Film, Applied Media Levels 2 and 3 and A Level Media courses in order to provide and maintain a high quality offer to students.

Responsible To: Head of Department

Annual Salary: Scale 3 of Support Staff Salary Spine, Points 18 - 21 pro rata (if applicable)

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week, term-time only

Holidays: College Holidays

Pension: Staff are enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme, a contributory scheme with the option to opt out in a transitional period


Key Responsibilities:
• To provide technical support to Teachers and Students in the Media Department, particularly in the areas of Film and Media.
• To support and supervise Students in executing their projects, including the use of relevant software.
• To store student work and video material and keep an archive for access.
• To control, maintain and distribute stock in order to promote access for Students, advising Course Team Leaders on orders and liaising with Finance and the College Shop.
• Working with the Senior Lens Based Media Technician, to liaise with the IT Services Department on the upkeep and updating of the Media Department's Mac & PC hardware and software.
• To co-ordinate booking systems for equipment as necessary.
• To liaise with other technicians in an attempt to avoid the duplication of jobs, seek support from other specialists and share good practice.
• To be responsible for Health and Safety within areas of own responsibility.
• To contribute to self-assessment and review activities.


General
• To take part in the College's Performance Review and Development Scheme (PRD).

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION/TRAINING
• A Levels, or equivalent
• A qualification in an area related to Film and / or Media
• A higher level qualification

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
• Experience of working within a Film or Media environment
• Knowledge of Mac and PC operating systems, digital camera hardware and a range of relevant software
• Experience/knowledge of working in an educational environment
• Prior technician experience
• Experience of working with young people

SKILLS/APTITUDES
• Able to work to a high standard using relevant media software, including Photoshop, iMovie &Final Cut Express
• High levels of technical and practical competence
• Accuracy and care with equipment
• High level of safety awareness
• An understanding of basic stock control
• Clear and accurate written communication
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise
• Good communication, numeracy and IT skills
• Experience in use of Microsoft Office applications including proficiency in Excel and Outlook
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to work independently, proactively and complete tasks with the minimum of supervision
• Ability to work calmly under pressure, often to tight deadlines
