Microbiology Laboratory Assistant
37.5 Hours per week
A position has arisen in the Microbiology department at The Rotherham Foundation Trust for an enthusiastic hard working Medical Laboratory Assistant in Microbiology. Although previous laboratory experience is not essential, a knowledge of technical skills would be considered important at selection. This post does not require a degree and is not a BMS training post, the role is as a support to technical scientific staff and is at Band 3 level, not leading to Band 5 work.
The department is a busy routine Microbiology laboratory and works in partnership with the Microbiology department at Barnsley to offer a comprehensive service to both hospital and GP patients in the Barnsley and Rotherham areas. The department is fully UKAS accredited and is well equipped with instrumentation including the UF1000i, Bact/Alert Blood culture system, VIDAS, Chorus and DS2 analysers, BD Viper and BD max molecular platforms.
The successful applicant will undergo a period of in-house training and competency testing. Prior laboratory experience in Microbiology would be desirable but not essential.
The applicant must be able to participate in the extended day service (working until 20:00), and rotational weekends and some Bank Holidays once suitably competent.

The Trust will meet the initial costs of the disclosure, and you can choose to have this deducted from either your first month’s salary or in instalments over your first 3 months’ salary. The current price of a standard check is £31 and an enhanced check is £49.
