OVERVIEW
As a member of Focus Features’ International Business & Legal Affairs Department, reporting to the VP Business & Legal Affairs (based in London), this role provides general legal and administrative support to the Business & Legal Affairs team.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Paralegal duties:
 
Completing form agreements, schedules and other documentation under an attorney’s supervision.
Preparing reports, summaries, memos and analyses of agreements and other matters.
Reviewing, analysing and interpreting agreements and providing accurate, comprehensive and detailed summaries.
Updating and maintaining schedules, tracking agreements/deals in progress, and securing signatures of contracts, and the management of electronic databases/systems.
Assisting in production of documents for attorneys (status reports, research, summaries, due diligence requests, notices, correspondence, etc.).
Preparing and maintaining records, reports and documents for compliance purposes.
Performing administrative tasks and handling other assignments at the direction of Business & Legal Affairs lawyers.
Undertaking legal research from time to time.
Attending routine meetings with internal clients.
Administrative/PA duties:
 
Coordinating and supporting the contract process as required (e.g. arranging signatures, translations of foreign language contracts and notarisation of contracts)
Supporting legal delivery process for all our films, including being first point of contact to process documents, and filing, reviewing and sending relevant materials as required to other parts of the business such as marketing/publicity/home video/servicing
Liaising with outside counsel, reviewing letters of engagement and managing invoicing and payment processes
Managing all other external payment processes (including reviewing invoices and creating payment requests), and liaising with Production Finance Department for cash forecast of payments
Personal Assistant to the VP Business & Legal Affairs (and other members of the department as required), which shall include:
Arranging travel (including creating travel and itinerary packs), processing expenses, updating Outlook contacts
Diary management and handling phone calls (including setting up conference calls)
General administrative duties (e.g. photocopying, scanning and filing)

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS

Essential
 
Law degree (or equivalent)
Previous experience in a legal / business affairs department, ideally as a legal assistant or paralegal
Proven commercial and transactional experience, preferably within a film/television/media environment
Sound knowledge of IP rights and distribution rights
Concise and efficient written and verbal communication skills
Proactive, clear thinker, able to prioritise and manage a diverse workload and keep track of numerous deadlines; ability to work under pressure within a fast paced and changing environment
Ability and willingness to develop good working relationships with key stakeholders, internally and externally, and across the wider organization; able to handle sensitive tasks/documents with complete confidentiality and discretion
Excellent administrative skills, coupled with a strong attention to detail; must be extremely organised and a master multi-tasker
Advanced MS Office, in particular
