Following a recent organisational change, our delivery model is now expected to be lead by a data driven portfolio, acknowledging 5 key capabilities: Resources Management, Risks Management, Benefits Management, Financial Management, Prioritization & Strategic Alignment.


As Portfolio Manager, you will be responsible for building the portfolio and ensuring that the correct framework is used. Supported by a Portfolio Specialist and a Portfolio Analyst, the Portfolio Manager will play a key role in the success of our new delivery model, ensuring our portfolio of projects delivers expected benefits & ROI, helps achieving strategic goals and we manage resources efficiently throughout.


As Portfolio Manager you'll work closely with the Head of Project & Change Management to control the overall project pipeline but also with the Head of Portfolio Management Department to run an efficient priority forum. The Portfolio Manager will facilitate the priority forum and will be responsible for providing all key delivery information used to make the right decisions at the right time.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide clear leadership and champion the implementation of Portfolio Management across the organisation

Responsible for setting the Portfolio strategy, vision and scope

Promote an energized portfolio culture that is focused on collaborative working in the interests of the organisation

Responsible and accountable for building all 5 key capabilities to benefit the overall pipeline and decision making

Create and apply appropriate standards for the governance, resources management, performance management, financial management of the Portfolio

Ensure the Portfolio Management delivery plan and framework are well aligned with existing processes (Project Management, Business Analyst teams, Technology, dedicated delivery functions)

Ensure project are set up for success and drive good practice to enable high quality project deliver – hand in hand with our PMO Specialist, Business Analysts and Project Managers

Monitor project management standards are being followed across the portfolio and that appropriate methodologies are used

Understanding the demands in the business (experiences, dedicated delivery functions, Strategic projects and programmes) and work with the Portfolio Specialist, Analyst, product owners and Agile Leads to ensure the team allocates resource as required based on strategic importance and complexity of project

Support the Head of Portfolio Management Office to set up, prepare prior, during and following the Prioritisation Forum meetings

Ensure the Portfolio reflects changed strategic objectives (OKRs), priorities and that resources are allocated/reallocated where necessary

Support the Head of Portfolio Management Office to make the right decisions on prioritisation according to business needs and capacity

Attend the Prioritisation Forum and deputise for Head of Portfolio Management Office in the Prioritisation Forum when required

Responsible for the overall performance management of the Portfolio across existing Experiences (User journeys) a dedicated delivery functions, supported by PMO Specialist.

Ensure team prepare regular status reporting and the correct communication is going out to all levels of the organisation]


Skills and Experience Required:

Proven experience of portfolio management, developing & executing portfolio strategies

Proven experience in managing portfolio capabilities including Governance, Prioritisation, Risk Management, Resources Management, Financial Management, Benefits Management & Business planning.

Excellent leadership, delegation and management skills

Experience of Portfolio management methods and tools (including prioritisation)

Excellent planning and organisational skills

Strong commercial understanding and awareness

Managerial experience and keen to work with Portfolio Specialist and Portfolio Analyst as part of our new Portfolio team

Strong stakeholder management skills at a senior level

Excellent communication to build effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders

Excellent negotiation skills to use during priority forum

Excellent verbal and written communication skills that are tailored to be effective and meaningful to all levels of audience

Ideally a professional qualification in either Portfolio Management or Project/Progamme Management
