For many children and young people in our city, Cardiff is a great place in which to grow up. Education provision and the achievements of learners are both improving. The city offers a wealth of opportunities in sports, leisure and culture. However, currently not all of our young people are benefitting, and we know that we need to do more to address this inequality in achievement, participation and progression in the working world.
We are committed to safeguarding our children and young people. We see schools as at the heart of the city’s approach to community life, with strong links to other public services, to local people and community groups.
‘Prevent’ is part of ‘Contest’ the Government’s Counter Terrorism Strategy. The Prevent strand is to safeguard and support those vulnerable to radicalisation and to stop them becoming involved in terrorism or supporting terrorism. It also supports vulnerable people and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation. We are committed to tackling all forms of extremism - including both Islamist extremist and Far Right threats.
In Cardiff, Prevent sits within a community safety setting and is part of a developing programme of work to intervene early, to identify and address a board range of vulnerabilities. We continue to focus on refining the links between safeguarding the vulnerable, building community cohesion and promoting mainstream voices across a multi-agency setting.
We are seeking an exceptional candidate for this high-profile role. You will be responsible for working with schools and other educational establishments on ‘Prevent’ to ensure that they are best placed to undertake their statutory Prevent duty and young people are safeguarded. We are looking for a confident and resilient person who understands the drivers that can influence young people and draw them into extremism. The successful candidate will be politically astute and be able to work with a wide range of partner organisations. You will have excellent communication, engagement and influencing skills and be able to manage projects.
