PrincipalEngineer – Structures

Followingsuccessful bids in the international market we are now supporting theAustralian and Canadian Navies in the design of the latest frigates. This is agreat time and a great opportunity to join our business and help shape thefuture of surface warships worldwide.

Wecurrently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Structures at our site inScotstoun; In the role as Principal, youwill support a small team, preparing scopes of work together with planning andtasking for the team of engineers.

Youwill be working on Stage 1 preliminary structures designs and work closely withthe customer to meet requirements. Youwill also support the engineering manager to ensure project timelines aresuccessfully met.

Thisrole will give you the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology anddesign at the forefront of naval architecture. Performing structural renovation tasks for the Canadian SurfaceCombatant (CSC), you will be looking to meet design targets that are rightfirst time and also have a good level of exposure to external stakeholders suchas the Canadian MOD.

Yourmain responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Structures will involve:

Preparingscopes of work, tasking and supportingthe engineering team

Carryingout relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, includingevaluation and selection of technical options

Preparingspecifications, developing designs in line with specifications and all qualityand technical standards, and carrying out design appraisals in assigned areasto ensure all standards are maintained

Carryingout investigations into operational problems or developments and developing andpreparing solutions, individually or as a member of a project team

Liaisingwith the Detail Design community and equipment owners to unblock issuespreventing the conclusion of structural design activities

Yourskills and qualifications:

Structuresexperience, ideally within ship building but not essential

Previousteam manager/leader experience preferred

Stage1 design experience

FiniteElement Analysis ( FEA) experience isessential with the ability to performanalysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements basedon experience

Understandingof Life Cycle Management

Previousengineering experience within any of the following industries: ships, aircraft,rail, civil engineering, oil & gas
