1. Purpose

1.1 To be responsible for GBS data returns and reports required by external bodies, such as the Office for Students, HESA, Student Loans Company, DLHE, NSS, TEF, etc.

1.2 To ensure that the policies and procedures of awarding bodies (Pearson, partner universities/colleges) and, as appropriate the GBS Quality Assurance Manual are fully and consistently implemented across all GBS campuses and programmes of study.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 The key aspect of the role is ensuring overall data quality and integrity, the compilation and submission of statistical and other returns and reports defined with higher education, including Office for Students, HESA, ILR, DLHE, NSS, TEF, Student Loans Company.

2.2 To be responsible for data quality control of GBS’s Management Information System (MIS) including student records and reporting.

2.3 To be responsible for creating, communicating and enforcing policies for effective data management and data reporting.

2.4 Providing analysis/data collection on ad‐hoc reports, and to serve as the contact for ad‐hoc requests.

2.5 To keep fully up to date with changing requirements of external bodies for data returns and reports.

2.6 To brief, as requested, senior staff and the GBS Executive Management Board on matters to do with data management and externally required data returns.

2.7 To ensure that the policies and procedures in the GBS Quality Assurance Manual are consistently implemented across all higher education provision and sites.

2.8 To unsure that the policies, procedures and systems for partner awarding bodies and colleges are fully and consistently implemented.

2.9 To contribute to the maintenance, review and updating of the GBS Quality Assurance manual.

2.10 Ensure the quality assurance and enhancement at GBS supports a cycle of continuous improvement, leading the implementation of any changes identified.

2.11 Lead on the approval, accreditation, monitoring, and review activity within a defined portfolio of the GBS's academic programmes

2.12 Liaising with and co-ordinating external verifier visits, external audits and dissemination of information

2.13 To co-ordinate and undertake internal audit tasks as appropriate to the needs of the college/demands of the awarding bodies.

2.14 To co-ordinate and manage the college’s complaints processes, ensuring timeous response and satisfactory outcomes.

2.15 Take on special projects as required and related to the role of Quality Officer.


2.16 To write high quality reports using quantitative and qualitative data for internal and external audiences, as required.

2.17 To work efficiently, accurately and with attention to detail

Essential Attributes

- Proven database experience, with an emphasis on reporting
- Experience managing projects to tight deadlines
- Experience in analysing trends and recommending practical measures for improvement
- Good understanding of quality assurance and quality enhancement and external requirements of quality reviews
