Description

Man Group, one of the world's largest independent alternative investment managers, is partnering with Women Returners to launch the 2019 Returner programme for a professional who has taken an extended career break and now wants to return to the workforce.


During the three to six month programme, you will work on professional assignments based on your skills and interests, and will benefit from coaching through the transition period from Women Returners, together with internal mentoring and network access. At the end of the programme, there will be the possibility of a permanent role with the organisation.

Man Group is keen to hear from candidates who have had a career break of at least 18 months, with relevant experience for any or a number of the following business units:


Investment Management

Man GLG - Discretionary

Man GPM - Private Markets

Man AHL - Systematic

Man FRM and Man Solutions - Alternative Investments

Central Trading

We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and who have strong analytical skills and a keen desire to learn.

Business Unit: Man GLG - Discretionary


Man GLG is a leading discretionary fund manager that delivers absolute return and long-only investment strategies across asset classes, sectors and geographies. Potential opportunities within Man GLG for Returners:


Managing money (portfolio manager/analyst/research)

Managing risk

Investment marketing

Any support role that facilitates the investment function including delivering projects related to technology, quant, operational risk, governance etc.

Desired Skills: Career experience in the Financial Services industry; strong communication skills/ability to build rapport as the role is likely to require managing relationships with internal / external stakeholders


Business Unit: Man GPM - Global Private Markets


Man GPM is a discretionary investment engine which focuses on making investments in private markets globally, with expertise in direct real estate equity, unlisted real estate debt and specialty finance. We focus on differentiated and underserved market segments, and we seek to be among first movers in providing access to new and growing investment themes. We have investment teams in London, New York and Charlotte, North Carolina.


Desired Skills: Solid understanding of investment management industry; self-starter with ability to assimilate new information and processes quickly; good numerical and IT skills; interest in and motivation to learn more about private market investment strategies, processes, and portfolio management; past professional experience in a similar industry preferable but not a requirement.


Business Unit: Man AHL - Systematic


Man AHL is a systematic investment manager running absolute return and long only quantitative funds. AHL is flat structured, open, transparent and collaborative. Potential opportunities within Man AHL for Returners:


Data Science Team a team of analysts and engineers closely collaborating with quantitative research to source new and alternative data sets.

Quantitative Analysts responsible for conducting research and developing strategies which will improve AHL's trading of financial markets across various different sectors.

Desired Skills Data Science team: Mathematical and computing background utilising quantitative analysis; proven experience and fluency with data analysis techniques in SQL and an object oriented language (preferably Python); self-organised with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects and with competing business demands and priorities.


Desired Skills Quantitative Analyst: Strong educational background in a quantitative subject; awareness of various statistical and mathematical tools and techniques, and the ability to select the appropriate ones to use in different circumstances; strong programming ability in at least one language; Understands the underlying structures and behaviours of the market.


Business Unit: Man FRM and Man Solutions


Man FRM is a global alternative investment specialist, providing clients with open architecture hedge fund and alpha strategy solutions. These include a full service hedge fund platform including commingled fund of hedge funds, customised and advisory solutions and outsourced research and consulting, all enhanced by the firm's managed account platform. We have 38 investment professionals based in New York, London, Guernsey and Pf ffikon. Man Solutions leverages the diverse expertise from across the firm to provide innovative and tailored 'cross-engine portfolio solutions' for our clients. These include Risk Premia, Multi-Strategy and Hedging Solutions.


Desired Skills: A background in project management, accountancy or finance; highly organised with excellent written and aural skills; proactive approach with the ability to function in a high paced and dynamic environment; creative problem solver.


Business Unit: Central Trading


Man Group's central trading team has responsibility for all trading activity across Man Group's quantitative and discretionary investment businesses Man AHL, Man GLG and Man Numeric. Our execution activity spans multiple asset classes, accessing over 450 markets and 46 exchanges through electronic and OTC execution. Our trading execution team is made up of approximately 45 professionals across three key functions: execution, execution technology and execution research. We place heavy emphasis on technology and leverage machine learning to optimise execution. Potential opportunities within Central Trading for Returners:


EMEA Trader

Desired Skills EMEA Trader: Ideally the candidate has some trading experience / experience on a trading or sales trading desk. Some understanding and knowledge of European Financial markets especially Equities would be helpful; Analytical skillset / Strong communicator.


Timing & Salary


It is envisaged that the start date will be Autumn 2019.


The successful candidates will be paid a salary at a competitive market rate.
