Secondary Teacher

KS3 Teacher (SEMH)
Specialist SEN Teacher
Very well run Alternative Provision Centre
Lambeth Local Authority
Permanent Job
Full Time Job
January Start

The Job

A well run and effective alternative provision centre in Lambeth is seeking to appoint a KS3 Secondary teacher to teach a challenging but bright class.
This is a permanent contract on offer from January 2020 and the school are keen to attract the best possible talent to ensure the continued development of the curriculum and their pupils.

I am seeking an experienced Secondary teacher who is comfortable delivering a cross curricula approach.
Due to the nature of the school strong behaviour management skills and good rapport with challenging teens are key attributes for a successful applicant.
Whilst experience teaching in a PRU or alternative provision setting could be helpful the Headteacher encourages applicants with the right skills and experience from mainstream secondary schools.

The School

The school has been deemed outstanding in its latest inspection.
Since 2012, this therapeutic special school in Lambeth has provided innovative, specialist provision for pupils who have typically experienced adverse childhood experiences, and who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties as a result.

As an all-through therapeutic provision for pupils aged 5-16, it provides genuinely personalised learning and therapy programmes within safe, stimulating and nurturing learning environments.
It sets high expectations, has a culture of ambition and a therapeutic values-centred approach.
As a result, they rapidly develop pupils' emotional well-being, willingness to learn, social and life skills, behaviour for learning and academic progress.

The Headteacher and SLT back the teaching and support staff to the hilt as they appreciate the challenges they face.
To ensure staff morale remains high and keep rooted in realities of the day to day demands in school the SLT all retain a partial teaching timetable.
This ensures that the leadership doesn't become disconnected from the challenges and dynamics within the school.
Most importantly They know all the students and their parents as individuals.

Benefits

The school is made up of a highly regarded staff team who believe every child deserves to be able to access mainstream schooling and the national curriculum.
The students have all been referred to school due to their inability to thrive in mainstream schools.
Most are diagnosed as having Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues which means that they can be challenging.
Classes are no larger than 8 pupils and as a result children are offered more individual attention than could be afforded in a mainstream school.
