We are looking for a Security Assistant to join our team to cover security across all three of our campuses and our accommodation developments.


This is a full-time permanent position working 24/7 rotational shifts -two 12 hour day-shifts (7am - 7pm) and two 12 hour night-shifts shifts (7pm- 7am) then 4 days off.


The Property & Facilities Team delivers a first class service to over 1,500 staff and nearly 18,000 students. The department's focus is on managing the University's key facilities, including estates and buildings, energy and sustainability, security, cleaning, logistics, print room, sports centre, catering services, conference management and student accommodation.


The Role


As Security Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment throughout our campuses at Sighthill, Merchiston and Craiglockhart and our student accommodation sites at Bainfield, Slateford Road and Orwell Terrace.


You will be responsible for foot/mobile patrols; opening/locking of premises; operational control of University car parking; security of equipment, vehicles and all University premises including student accommodation buildings; and generally implementing University security regulations in a customer focused manner to ensure a safe and secure environment.


You will also be responsible for using information technology to maintain all incident reports, patrol sheets and other documentation, ensuring that all information and records are compliant with GDPR.


What Are We Looking For


We are looking for someone to have a very customer service focused outlook, the ideal candidate will have an approachable demeanour with an understanding of an understanding of current student welfare, residential life and mental wellbeing issues.


Applicants must demonstrate:

Excellent oral, listening and written communication skills to enable effective communication in a variety of situations

Evidence a customer focused approach to all interactions with Students , Staff and Visitors

Proficient use of Microsoft packages - Word, Excel and Outlook

A sound understanding in General Data Protection Regulation

Ability to use initiative in lone working situations

Current driving licence


Desirable attributes:

Demonstrable experience within a similar security environment

Experience of security systems including CCTV, Access Control, fire systems/equipment and 2 way radio

Current first aid certificate

Salary: Grade 2 - GBP 17,751 - GBP 20,836 per annum plus 3.5% shift allowance and agreed contractual overtime of 311 hours per annum, currently payable at time and a quarter.
