Senior Big Data Developer
Glasgow

A new opportunity has become available within our Risk Finance and Treasury Technology team for a Senior Big Data Developer. This team is responsible for the delivery of technology initiatives to a variety of business areas: Front Office, Credit Risk, Product Control, Compliance, Supervisors, Regulatory relations and Operations. This team is currently transforming the technology infrastructure to compute and report Market Risk in line with the bank's strategic initiatives.

What will you be doing?

• Design and implementation of a massively parallel data processing workflow and rules engine
• Design and implementation of physical data and metadata repositories in Hive/Impala/HBase (as appropriate) corresponding to logical data models
• Design and implementation of data service layer in Hadoop
• Real time replication of data from current RDBMS based systems to the risk hub

What we’re looking for:

• Proven hands-on experience in IT development with Java, Scala or another OO programming language
• Hands-on experience with Hadoop technologies
• Experience in data modelling with good SQL skills
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC phases
• Scripting knowledge (shell, Python)

Skills that will help you in the role:

• General understanding of the financial markets and environment; willingness and capacity to learn complex financial concepts.
• Experience in building large structured and semi structured data stores.
• Ability to build productive working relationships with other IT groups, business users and support teams.

This role will be based in our Aurora house Glasgow office; a stones throw away from Glasgow Central Train Station and the heart of Glasgow.
