Software Development Manager


Our Client operating in the Gaming industry are seeking an Software Development Manager to join their team.
They are a young, dynamic and fast-moving company with major brands in the market. They have also just been named one of the top 15 gaming companies in the world set to disrupt the gaming industry during 2019 as part of the 'next generation', thanks to their innovation and unique products.

The successful Software Development Manager will:

*Manage the engineering process, providing mentorship and guidance to team members who are stuck
*Ensure that the engineering team is correctly balanced and deal with any skill gaps, key person dependencies and such in a timely manner
*Take ownership of various technology initiatives, driven by software engineering, and manage their delivery
*Be hands on as and when required. Need to be able to drive a spike, create a small proof of concept or a small auxiliary technical task as and when required
*Recruiting and onboarding new engineers into the team
*Line manage all the engineers in the team, overseeing and evaluating their work
*Do regular 1-2-1s to manage and guide both performance and personal development
*Analyse business requirements and drive projects to deliver value to meet the needs of your colleagues
*Contribute to software design discussions and solve problems while considering the bigger picture
*Manage the process and delivery of engineering tasks briefed by colleagues outside of the development team and liaise with those departments on a regular basis.

Requirements for the successful Software Development Manager:

*Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience.
*Analytical skills, strong team ethic, and attention to detail.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
*Be able to effectively communicate with everyone in the team and stakeholders
*Good communication and business partnering skills, able to communicate to all levels of staff and senior management across the global organisation
*Demonstrable success in launching projects and delivering results.
*Experience of managing software engineering teams and developing technical direct reports.
*Hands-on and technical: Solid systems design, problem solving, ability to code, and contribute to on-going development and development practices.
*Knowledge and experience of software engineering and SDLC best practices
*A proven ability to learn and adapt to new, complex development environments
*Ability to work through roadblocks and provide solutions
*Ability to cultivate a positive work environment
*Innovative but commercially focused with an understanding of business priorities
*Ability to understand customer requirements and conceive good business solutions
*Experience in leading teams through organisational change
*Problem Solving and Decision Making at both an individual and organisational level
*Experience with building a development team, including recruiting and hiring
*Experience with high availability and scalability of web services and micro-services
