The role holder will provide in-house legal support, covering all aspects of the work of Munich Re UK Branch, Munich Re UK Services and Munich Re Digital Partners, where input or advice of a legal nature is required. This role opens on 7th May 2019 and will close on 4th June 2019. However, we recommend you apply for the role as soon as possible in case the role is closed early. To advise on aspects of the law of England and Wales, as required, and to respond to queries of a legal and regulatory nature, including carrying out legal research.
To draft and to advise on and/or to supervise the drafting of all types of contractual or other legal documentation, as required.
To liaise with Munich Re internal and external clients on legal matters, as required.
To maintain a good working knowledge of the law of England and Wales as relevant to support the work of the Legal Department.
Note that the Legal team is a “shared service” function, which provides legal services and support to various internal clients (including the life reinsurance branch, the UK service company, and the non-life MGA).
To assist in drafting and negotiation of all types of contractual documents, including supplier contracts; IT/IP agreements; confidentiality agreements; insurance/reinsurance agreements; and to review and comment on correspondence or other documentation where a legal view is required.
To advise generally on issues of legislative and regulatory compliance, as required.
To advise on changes in law or regulation (including participation in government or other consultations).
Liaising with internal and external clients, and external lawyers, as required.
To assist with company secretarial work of the Munich companies in the UK, as required.
Some prior in-house experience (e.g. with an insurance or reinsurance company).
A high level of competence in drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts (e.g. supplier agreements; NDAs; software licences).
Good general knowledge of business and commercial law issues.
Some knowledge of insurance law and the UK insurance market.
Above all, a pragmatic and flexible approach. The candidate would need to be able to make a real contribution, within a short time, to the work of a small but busy team which deals with a very wide range of legal matters.
Excellent legal research skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Advanced knowledge of insurance/reinsurance law (note that internal clients include both life and non-life reinsurers and MGAs within the Munich Re Group).
Some knowledge of company law, with a view to providing support to the company secretarial function.
Qualifications & Educational Requirements:
Qualified Solicitor / holder of current certificate to practice English law
