Job Title: Strategic Lawyer

Rate: £ 25.16 / 32.16 per hour

Main duties and Responsibilities: This post is for a qualified lawyer (solicitor or barrister) to work in the EU and International Affairs Team of Department for Work and Pensions Legal Advisers. The team advises on a wide range of EU and international law matters, both contentious and non-contentious, which arise in DWP’s policy areas. The team is particularly busy at the moment with preparations for EU Exit alongside a high volume of business as usual work.

The post holder will support a range of work, principally in the mini-team which deals with migrant access to benefits, DWP’s interest in the Windrush compensation scheme and international law matters. The post holder can expect to get involved in litigation (working with colleagues in GLD litigation) and general advisory work. We are looking for someone with a good working knowledge of EU law and ideally some experience in a public law role (whether dealing with litigation or non-contentious matters). The existing post holder is taking maternity leave from May 2019.
