The Student Communications Officer facilitates two-way communication between ACM and its student body. The role sits between our Marketing and Quality departments, reflecting the role’s dual-purpose in amplifying learning opportunity at ACM through the communication of learning opportunities to the student body, whilst also collating feedback from the student body that goes to enhance our education provision by working with colleagues to act upon that feedback in a constructive manner.
The Student Communications Offer is, at various times, a journalist, a troubleshooter, a marketing executive, an events manager, but always an advocate for our ethos that Student Feedback equals Positive Change at ACM.
:: Liaising with departments across the organisation to collate relevant information appropriate for communication to students, bringing a level of transparency to decision making at ACM, as well as amplifying the academic, professional and personal development opportunities we make available to the student body.
:: Distributing relevant messaging to students across Email, SMS, On-Campus Signage and Social Channels, as is appropriate. Running campaigns to ensure receipt of and engagement with that messaging.
:: Working with colleagues to ensuring that feedback collated from Question Time, Student Rep and Student Voice events is communicated to the appropriate communities and acted upon, with progress communicated back to the students in such a way that conforms with our Student Feedback = Positive Change and You Said, We Did.
:: Running projects such as those for The National Student Survey and What Uni, where students share their feedback with the outside world.
:: Working with Marketing on the creation of assets that shed light on the good work of ACM in these areas.
:: Working to create Marketing assets that shed light on weekly campus activity, for distribution to student communities.
The Student Communications Officer will be part of ACM’s centralised team at ACM Guildford, providing service to ACM Birmingham, ACM Guildford and ACM London Campuses. Travel between campuses will be necessary as part of the role and paid for by ACM.
– Knowledge of the needs and behaviours of today’s Student
– Experience of using Email Marketing tools like as MailChimp
– Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills
– Previous experience in making wider marketing assets like Graphics, Video etc.
– Previous work within the Higher Education sector
– Experience of leading projects
– Experience of running events
– Knowledge of the Higher Education regulatory landscape
This job purpose reflects the core activities of the post. As the Department and the post-holder develop, there will inevitably be some changes to the duties for which the post is responsible, and possibly to the emphasis of the post itself. ACM expects that the post-holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work. This could include undertaking relevant training where necessary. Should significant changes to the job purpose become necessary, the post-holder will be consulted and the changes reflected in a revised job purpose.
