It’s an exciting time to join, as in 2017 CAF celebrated its 100th year, and announced plans to build a new state-of-the art assembly hub in Newport. The new assembly hub is being designed to build a range of different trains, including diesel multiple units (DMUs), electric multiple units (EMUs), trams and high speed trains.

Job Summary

The Train Assembler is a member of a team responsible for vehicle assembly and fitting components in various stages of assembly on the production line.

Key Responsibilities:

Assembly

Follows specifications and other appropriate instructions and/or procedures to accurately assemble components on the production line using a variety of tools and equipment. This will include, but is not limited to, mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, and fitting safety critical parts.

Support quality, productivity and process improvement initiatives.

Carry out lean production activities.

Record and report faults to relevant areas of production.

Perform work quality checks to ensure product meets quality and safety standards.

Maintain a clean, well-organised safe work area which adheres to Company housekeeping processes.

Maintain all equipment according to maintenance plans and procedures.

Carry out problem solving and troubleshooting techniques as part of a team responsible for realising continuous improvement to products and processes.

Undertake training relevant to the role and across teams to provide resource/skills and supports/ works in other areas as may be necessary.

Train and act as a mentor to others on process and job role requirements.

Adhere to all risk assessment and Health & Safety regulations.

Ensure all records (manual and digital) are completed correctly and on time.

Carry out routine daily maintenance and safety checks.

Pro-actively seek out process improvements and efficiency savings, recommending to line manager where improvements can be made or costs reduced.

Desirable

NVQ Level 2/3 in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent in related field.

IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.

Current First Aid at Work qualification.

Manually dexterous, with mechanical/electrical quality aptitude.

Follows instructions accurately.

High attention to detail and able to perform repetitive tasks well.

Able to use a variety of machines and hand tools.

Able to carry out role as a mentor and train others on job requirements.

Supports/works in other areas as may be necessary.

Follows verbal/written instructions and other relevant data/documentation.

Strong IT skills, familiar with Microsoft packages.

Able to work different shift patterns in accordance with business requirements, which may involve weekend and night time working patterns.

Desirable

Working experience of mechanical/electrical assembly work in a lean manufacturing environment.

Desirable
