Deputy Managing Director & Financial Director (CFO)
March 2008 - February 2015
At the beginning of my tenure, I served as Financial & Administrative Director in Mozambique and Angola; and since 2008 have served as Financial Director, Deputy Managing Director in Sierra Leone at Seaboard West Africa. When initially transferred to Sierra Leone, our facilities consisted of a flour mill producing flour, animals and a staff of 382. My mission was threefold: turn around an unprofitable situation; streamline production/create maximum efficiency; increase production to 75% extraction rate, versus 73%. In 12 months we delivered a substantial profit, which was sustained throughout the next 4 years. I look back with appreciation to everyone on the team who selflessly labored and worked long hours. We transformed the facility into a state-of-the-art operation. Our success also earned myself a promotion to Deputy Managing Director. It does not get any better than that!

When I was first hired, our company President informed me that, a critical initiative was about to be implemented which would involve the creation of an office in Venezuela as part of a market expansion effort involving the servicing of oil rigs, platforms, etc. and to provide catering, housekeeping and logistics services. By collaborating with directly with the key stakeholders involved in the project key issues were identified, debated and solutions were created. Notable challenges and opportunities involved answers to the following concerns: the extent of country, culture, political environment (American favored), etc. research; labor union challenges; State Department, support service availability and expat emergency plans; status of statutory commercial and federal laws and the impact of local tax basics; as well as researching the best lawyers and financial advisors and identifying which big 8 accounting firms would be available to assist.
