The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites applications for a part time instructor in Interior Design.
The Interior Design Department at FIT seeks qualified instructors for adjunct positions teaching design technology courses. The FIT Interior Design Department offers AAS and BFA degrees. In the AAS program, two second-year technology courses (ID282 and ID283) focus on the process of interior construction and its interaction with various building systems and regulations that govern the design, construction, and occupancy of interior spaces. The general concepts of Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) are introduced. In the BFA program, two third-year design technology courses (ID381 and ID382) address the design and control of interior environments as it relates to human comfort levels. Students become further familiar with various regulations that govern the design, construction, and occupancy of building interiors relative to public health, safety, and welfare are addressed. Students become further familiar with a wide variety of building materials, finishes, and the preparation of construction details.
The candidates will exhibit continuous ability to learn, evolve, and adapt to cutting edge technology developments in professional practices and be able to implement such knowledge in courses successfully.
o Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or allied discipline.
o Six years of current professional interior design or architecture experience that includes the creation of integrated contract documents and specifications for various project scale/type and coordination with allied disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural Engineering.
o Knowledge of materials and methods of interior construction.
o Knowledge of current CADD and BIM industry software.
o Knowledge and ability to teach the current laws, codes, standards, and guidelines that impact the health, safety, and welfare of building occupants.
o Ability to explore and communicate construction options through hand sketching and conventional delineation.
o Ability to teach the basic concepts of CADD, with an emphasis on two-dimensional drafting applications such as plans, sections, and elevations of interior spaces.
o Ability to teach the basic concepts of Building Information Modeling software with an emphasis on 3Dvisualization.
o Experience in teaching college-level computer technical courses preferred.

Pay rate: $72.08 per teaching hour
