Job Description
The Region I Elections Office is looking for a highly motivated individual who is interested in the election process and would like to provide clerical support to the Region I Elections office. This position will perform specialized, complex clerical work requiring independence, judgment, and initiative. Due to the high-profile nature of conducting elections, this position will be required to work within tight statutory deadlines and perform multiple job duties with constant interruptions.

Primary responsibilities include providing administrative support to the regional office and assisting the regional supervisor with all voter registration and election management functions. This position will be required to perform extensive data entry into the voter registration system with a high degree of accuracy. The position will edit, format, and compose correspondence for registration denials by notifying the voter of the appropriate reason registration was denied. In addition, the position will supervise and audit the data entry of registration and election documents entered by temporary election staff. This position provides information to the public and other agencies requiring interpretation and explanation concerning voter registration, polling places, absentee voting, candidacy, petitions, statistical and other related information.

In preparation for the election cycle, this position will be responsible for preparing and/or supervising the preparation of all election related materials, forms, and supplies that are needed at each polling place. The position will be responsible for receiving and maintaining accountability for all absentee ballots received in the regional office. In order to perform these functions, this position must be able to develop and utilize spreadsheets to track, maintain, and analyze various election needs.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or the equivalent;
One year of advanced level clerical experience performing and/or supervising a variety of administrative activities. The experience should indicate the knowledge and application of a variety of administrative processes in areas such as supplies, inventory, supervision, travel, and accountability in order to handle office details in these areas. The work typically involves significant contact with the public concerning the programs and services offered by the organizational unit.

Substitution: Postsecondary education in office skills, accounting, or computer science will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. A bachelor's degree or the equivalent in any major will substitute for the experience.

Special Requirement: Individual positions in this class require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection will include this requirement.

Special Note: The Admin Clerk III, Elections is in the Exempt Service per AS 39.25.110(20). In accordance with AS 15.10.105(b)(2), after successfully completing a period of probation, employees in the class achieve permanent status in the Division of Elections.
