The Anesthesia Technician is an integral member of the anesthesia patientcare team who works under the Department of Anesthesiology to assist theanesthesia providers in various settings by providing support for routinesurgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patientequipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia.The Anesthesia Technician reports to the Technical Director and the Director ofAnesthesiology.
Assistanesthesiologist/CRNA/Resident/as requested, as long as within scope ofpractice. May be clinical. Assistwith anesthesia case set up. Clean and restock OR carts. Performssimple maintenance on anesthesia equipment. Maintains knowledge of equipment, cleaning,storage, uses. Ensuresanesthesia equipment and supplies arepresent and up to date. Other responsibilities as directed by anesthesiaproviders.Theanesthesia technician demonstrates proficiency in: Use andcare of physiological monitors relating to the administration of anesthesia. Biologichazards, infection control, and standard precautions. Fire,electrical, laser and explosion hazards in the operating room and otheranesthesia related areas. Storage,use and safe handling of bulk and cylinder gases. Structure,function and care of all components of anesthesia delivery systems. Steriletechnique and the principals of aseptic practice. Usage ofcommon anesthetic gases. Principlesof purchasing and supply levels. Communicationskills. Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience where theprimary function of the position was maintaining or repairing medical,mechanical, or electronic equipment, one year of which must have been in ahospital operating room preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment andsupplies.
High school diploma orequivalent.
Licenses / Certifications:
Certification as an Anesthesia Technician(CAT) by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians(ASATT), preferred. *CAT may be substituted with minimum of 1years of work experience as a non-certified anesthesia technician.
Ability tocommunicate in English (oral and written)
