Description

MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives every day. As one of the world’s premier biotechnology companies, our mission is centered on delivering life-changing products that advance world health, and help fight and cure disease.

We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We’re pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas including oncology, respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, and infection and vaccines. And we’re industry-leading in immunology, protein engineering and translational science. We offer a unique and strong collaborative network as part of the AstraZeneca family, as together we explore synergies between small and large molecules.

MedImmune has a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration and innovation. We attract top minds, and we nurture and build top talent.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

MedImmune, LLC is seeking an innovative, passionate, and highly motivated Associate Scientist I/II with a background in chemical engineering, pharmaceutics or a related field to join the Drug Delivery group. The position holder will play an important role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives, and be responsible for organizing and conducting laboratory experiments that support multiple drug delivery projects in a matrix environment.  The position holder will also assess, compile and report experimental data with a clear understanding of its reliability.  This will require interpreting experimental findings and drawing authoritative conclusions and recommendations so that their significance can be appreciated.  In addition, he or she will apply knowledge and expertise to support the achievement of project targets, and contribute to the identification and development of cutting-edge technologies and novel methodologies that build capability for the 'in vivo expressed biologics' platform.

Essential Requirements:

Associate Scientist I: Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Science or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Pharmacy or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Associate Scientist II: Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Pharmacy or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.

Special Skills/Abilities:

Good understanding and experience of the concepts within the area of drug delivery, including nanoparticulate delivery, preferably in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, and up to date technical knowledge.
Experience with the development of microfluidic systems and/or nanoparticulate formulation of biologic molecules would be a distinct advantage.
Independence in experimental planning and work, and pro-active in problem solving.
Knowledge of the drug development process and the importance of the application of drug delivery capability to this process.
Knowledge and experience of other areas supportive of the individual’s specialist area, such as formulation and analytical development.
Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, with experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
Flexibility and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
Job complexity

Job complexity would be medium-high and the position holder would be expected to utilize their experience to identify technical objectives and prioritize effectively over multiple projects to meet project targets. The role requires teamwork in a matrix environment with other MedImmune functions (Research, Antibody Design & Protein Engineering, Regulatory, etc.) and external companies.
