We offer a unique and strong collaborative network as part of the AstraZeneca family, as together we explore synergies between small and large molecules. MedImmune has a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration and innovation. We attract top minds, and we nurture and build top talent.
As a member of the Microbial Sciences research group, you will work as part of a team discovering and developing novel therapeutics with a focus on respiratory infection.
The selected individual will be a well-organized and highly productive bench scientist who can design and execute experiments efficiently and interpret data in the context of multidisciplinary project teams. The position requires the ability to embrace new technologies quickly and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, matrix-structured work environment.
He/she will have general knowledge of the fields of virology and cell biology.
Strong hands-on experience with cell culture and viral propagation
Experience performing standard laboratory procedures for quantitation of pathogen burden such as TCID50 and plaque assays.
Experience with molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning, site-direct mutagenesis, RT-PCR and qPCR.
Experience performing standard laboratory procedures for the study of protein expression such as ELISA and immune-staining techniques
Strong assay development skills
Willingness to work with BSL-2 and BSL-2* infectious agents (vaccination may be required)
Track record of independent design and execution of multiple simultaneous projects that are complex and technically demanding
Preferred but not required:
Experience in isolation and culture of primary cells and the use of co-culture systems.
Experience in evaluating immunological responses to viral infection by various means such as flow cytometry, EliSpot, MSD and luminex
Ability to prepare precise technical reports, summaries, protocols, quantitative analyses, and maintain appropriate documentation.
