Position:  AVP and Valuation Actuary – Retirement Income Solutions (RIS)
Job Location: New York, NY
Department: The RIS business is one of the largest U.S. segments in MetLife, on both an existing assets and sales basis.  
The Role:
This leader will be responsible for valuation, liability projections and financial reporting for approximately $200+ billion US Payout Annuity business issued primarily by Retirement Income Solutions (RIS).  The business includes a wide variety of products, including pension closeout annuities, structured settlements, GIC/Funding agreements, and separate account guaranteed products.  
Key Responsibilities:
Accountable for actuarial reserves and other financial entries under Statutory, US GAAP and Tax accounting, loss recognition testing, and sources of earnings analysis.
Acts as advisor/consultant to Senior Management both within Actuarial and to CFO, Controllers and RIS and MetLife Holdings business areas on product profitability and emerging risk issues.
Oversees the activities of direct reports in pursuit of continuous improvement in the accuracy and effective use of data, the consistent application of assumptions, and the appropriate use of projection models and valuation systems in developing financial plans and performing reserve calculations.
Builds capacity by ensuring operational effectiveness in financial close and continuous improvement analytical services, in accordance with applicable professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Acts as a subject matter expert in areas related to regulatory and accounting guidance in a collaborative environment.
Key Relationships:
Reports to: VP & Lead Actuary – RIS
Direct reports/team: 2-3 and total team of 7-10 associates
Key Stakeholders: Chief Financial Officer organization, RIS Product Management Team, Controllers, Global Risk Management
Candidate Qualifications:
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or related field.  FSA designation. 10+ yrs. related actuarial experience.
Valuation and Financial Reporting experience is of primary importance, followed by RIS Product experience.
Strong technical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Focus on attentive listening and clear and concise verbal and written communications.
Global mindset with ability to influence others within a complex matrix reporting structure.
