Job Overview The successful candidate will operate as a member of the Corporate Mechanical Engineering department cables team. Responsibilities include design of cabling systems, creating and updating interconnect diagrams and documentation, creating and maintaining cable assembly bill-of-materials, coordinating initial interconnect material purchases, working with external suppliers to specify cable component and fabrication approaches, and working with internal lab technicians to coordinate and guide first prototype builds. The Cables Engineer will interface with internal staff and outside suppliers in the fast-paced execution of a variety of multi-disciplined projects.

Minimum Qualifications 2+ years actively involved in the design of electro-mechanical interconnect systems and cable assemblies.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Ability to work with hardware teams to develop and improve cable requirements Experience working with mechanical and CAD teams to define optimal placement of system I/O components Experience interfacing with cable assembly manufacturing firms to ensure designs are manufacturable and that quality and assembly requirements are met. Effectively multitasks and meets aggressive schedules in a dynamic environment Ability to interface with overseas team members. Ability to work with component engineers and configuration management to assign part numbers to new connector selections Ability to work with material planners and suppliers to ensure initial interconnect prototypes meet dynamic and demanding project schedule, cost and design requirements Ability to work with prototype lab technicians to fabricate and rework prototype cables Experience with defining electronic system interconnect diagrams Strong knowledge of cable assembly design and documentation practices Understands interconnect performance requirements Experience creating and maintaining interconnect-related bills-of-materials Experience with optimal selection of raw cable, hook up wire, and connectors to meet performance, cost, and lead time requirements Experience with high frequency RF cable assembly design, analysis, and test processes Experience specifying high speed data cable assemblies Experience with power cable assembly design and analysis Performs tasks with minimal supervision Understands project goals and individual contribution toward those goals Effectively communicates with project peers and engineering personnel Working knowledge of Agile configuration management system preferred, including ECO creation Working knowledge of MS Office applications incl Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel Working knowledge of Pro-E and Pro-E cabling
Education Requirements BSME or BSEE preferred
