Description

The gRED Communications Director reports directly to the Vice President of Business Operations and Project Management and is a key Business Partner to the Executive Vice President and Head of Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED).  Leads and oversees communications in support of gRED’s business objectives and pipeline.  Accountable for consistently and effectively translating gRED’s business goals into practical communication strategies and change management activities that:
Provide vision and strategic direction for gRED communications, driving integrated annual planning, overseeing implementation and ensuring measurable outcomes. 
Function as a senior strategic communication counselor to members of the gRED Leadership Team, provide key insights and perspectives to influence decisions, drive employee engagement & retention, and enhance internal culture
Drive internal awareness and understanding of every employee’s role in the overall success of the pipeline
Enhance the communication capabilities of officers, and strengthen the communications competencies to effectively communicate with “one voice”
Accountable for consistent and proactive change management strategies and activities that minimize disruption and strengthens employee engagement
Job Responsibilities
Accountable, in collaboration with Group Communications, for internal and external positioning of gRED, delivering on business priorities, enhancing the company’s reputation, and fostering employee engagement
Integrate information from business-embedded communication positions from multiple departments to create a single, high messages for gRED
Drives gRED communications strategies, development and implementation plans and tactics across the organization to ensure maximally effective communications
Plays a key role in shaping the internal culture of the gRED organization through effective internal communication to employee, HR and enhance the communication capabilities of senior executives, and strengthen the communications competencies across the gRED organization
Collaborate closely with Pharma Communication, pRED, Product Development, Pharma Technical operations, Global Product Strategy, Human Resources, Corporate Relations and Group Communication
Provides strategic counsel that demonstrates a strong understanding of the Pharmaceutical business, possess strong business acumen and exceptional interpersonal skills
Anticipate and plan for changes in the business and their implications on the organization structure and skills/capability needs.
Drive internal awareness and understanding of the pipeline throughout the organization
Provide vision and strategic direction to your team of direct and indirect reports, driving integrated annual planning, overseeing implementation and ensuring measurable outcomes. Oversee your team to ensure high quality work product within budget.
Recruit, appoint, lead and retain talent within the gRED Communication Team, developing employees to their full potential
Lead a high performing team (two direct reports) of communications professionals. Ensure an environment of strong team spirit, timely and effective communications, sense of urgency, high motivation and inspire teams to achieve goals in the immediate- and longer-term
Develop/lead organizational design, resource requirements, compensation, expense budgets, immediate-, medium- and long-term capacity for the team
Ensure team members have the skills and capabilities necessary for high-quality communication deliverables
Identify opportunities for collaberation with other cross-functional teams, identifying, assigning and / or leading special projects that carry broader impact to the business.
Job Requirements
Education University Degree (MS, MA, MBA, or post graduate studies are preferred) with 15+ years in communications, preferably gained in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related industry, or Public Relations agency experience supporting pharmaceutical or other healthcare clients
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex scientific issues and concepts to broad audiences
10+ years people management experience. Experience managing other people managers is preferred 
Fluent written and verbal English.
Experienced member of and active participant in business leadership teams / previous communication business partner roles preferred
